Small openings can transform entire systems.

ABOUT US

We co-create the conditions for landscapes, communities, and cities to grow stronger over time.

Founded in Summer 2026, Kanopi Gap is a landscape architecture and planning practice that finds the strategic solutions to complex projects—asking the questions that unlock what's possible before a single drawing is made.

Our Origin Story.

Our Origin Story.

When a tree falls in a forest, something remarkable happens.

Sunlight reaches the ground for the first time in years. Seeds lying dormant begin to grow. New species emerge. The forest doesn't weaken. It adapts. It reorganizes. It becomes more diverse, more resilient, and more alive than before. Ecologists call this a canopy gap…

We built our design practice around that idea.

Not around imposing solutions or applying predetermined answers, but around identifying the moments of opportunity that already exist within a place. The openings where thoughtful intervention can create the conditions for something better to emerge.

Every landscape, neighborhood, district, and city is a living system. Each has its own dynamics, relationships, and potential. Our role is not to overwrite those systems, but to work with them, understanding where a small shift can unlock meaningful change.

This is the power of the KANOPI gap. A small opening can transform an entire system.

our services

We follow a process, but every project is different.

We work across disciplines to find the gaps and design what grows there.

Our Team

The people who find the gaps and design what grows there.

We are a small, experienced practice built on collaboration and clarity.

Our Experience

Our work is anchored in Saint Louis, but our past experience has taken us around the globe.

Our founding team brings decades of local and international experience across complex sites, campuses, and cities. The approach has always been the same: find the gap, ask the right questions, design what grows.
